Documentary. 49 minutes. USA, English.
Freedom's Call is about the American Deep South in the turbulent '50's and '60's. We
journey to Memphis, Little Rock, Oxford, Jackson and the Mississippi Delta with two
African-American journalists who covered the important stories of the era.
The film features Dorothy Gilliam, first female African American reporter at The
Washington Post, and Ernest Withers, renowned photographer whose work has appeared in the
black press, The Washington Post and The New York Times. Mr Withers was with Dr. King the
night he was murdered and helped chronicle this historic event.
Two of the stops along the way are visits with Minniejean Brown Trickey, one of "The
Little Rock Nine," and James Meredith, first African American to attend the
University of Mississippi.Screenings
