"End of the Line", a film by Scott Eldridge

  Feature. 103 minutes. Canada. English.

End of the Line tells four stories set on a Canadian subway:
1. The Homeless Man. Everyone ignores the homeless man, that is, unless he gets in their way. To get out of a storm, the Homeless Man is compelled to take the subway. He soon finds he doesn’t belong.
In the subway the Homeless Man meets many interesting people, most of whom seem intent on making his life even more difficult. But even in his world there can be happiness, if only for a brief time.
2. Dream Girl. Stanley, a shy, young professional man, sees the girl of his dreams, Margaret, on the subway. She’s obviously interested in him, but how can Stanley meet Margaret on a crowded subway? As is often the case, it’s the woman who has to save the day.
3. The Blessed Event. Joe and Mary, a young Aboriginal couple, have recently left the Reserve and moved to the big city. Their financial situation is desperate.
Mary is pregnant with their child and they are travelling to an abortion clinic. Guilt accompanies them on the ride there. At the clinic Mary cannot go through with it. A false hope is their companion on the return trip. But there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
4. Gateway to Heaven. Andrew, an elderly gentleman, encounters Faith, an elderly, lonely lady, on the subway. Faith plans to end her life and join her recently deceased husband in Heaven. Andrew, beset with guilt over the loss of his own wife years earlier, desperately tries to save her life.
In the end Faith finds a reason to live, for she’s made a new and dear friend.
